Why NOT to use fabric Softeners for most fabrics

Did you know that fabric softeners were intended mainly for cotton fabrics?

Just think about how long fabric softeners have been around. Dating back to the ringer-washers that our grand or great grand mothers used to use, fabric softeners haven't changed much. Fabric on the other hand has gone through many changes.

Modern fabrics breath better, are moisture wicking and don't carry the same old "plastic feel" as they did in the 70's with visa polyester.

The way fabrics are produced today allows for better circulation of air and moisture which allows for a more comfortable feeling fabric. The issue with fabric softeners is that those nice openings in the weave of the fabric get closed with the fabric softener. That doesn't allow the air to flow or moisture to wick out of the fabric as intended, making it feel like you are wearing a plastic bag. Fabric softeners include the liquid and dryer sheets. You can also find them included in your laundry detergent, check to see.

So if you are buying moisture wicking, performance material and using fabric softeners, then you are essentially making it moisture wicking no more...

If you are using fabric softener to as implied soften your fabric, or reduce static, try this: Get dryer balls made of worsted wool. Add an essential oil of your choosing if you would like to get a fresh scent You can also make these yourself as a family project!
